‘BIOTZA’

Located at the neighbourhood of Rekaldeberri in Bilbao, the objective of this urban project is the demolition of the highly transitted highway A-8 which has polluted and damaged the quality of lifestyle of its surroundings throughout decades since its construction, leaving the streets around it unattended, polluted and urbanistically decayed in every aspect.

The sole purpose for the planning of the project is to propose a series of strategies that guarantee a better lifestyle that live up to a higher quality standard, while regenerating the neighbourhood and growing a social, comercial and cultural interest to the city of Bilbao.

Having this in mind, BIOTZA (translated “heart” in Euskera) revolves around the concept of the heart as the core of an interconnected system that brings life to it. In this way, the project serves as an analogy taking in account the purpose of the heart, bringing life to the neighbourhood of Rekaldeberri.
